Restituted Egon Schiele Drawing to Be Auctioned at Christie's London

An Egon Schiele drawing, "Knabe in Matrosenanzug" (Boy in a Sailor Suit) from 1914, once looted by the Nazis from Austrian Jewish cabaret performer Fritz Grünbaum, has been restituted to his heirs and is set for auction at Christie's London on March 5, 2025. The piece is estimated to fetch between £1 million and £1.5 million ($1.3 million to $1.9 million). Grünbaum, a prominent art collector, had his collection of over 400 works seized during the Nazi annexation of Austria in 1938. He was later murdered at the Dachau concentration camp in 1941. The upcoming sale of this drawing not only highlights Schiele's artistic significance but also underscores ongoing efforts to return looted art to rightful heirs.
