Frank Auerbach

Frank Auerbach

Frank Auerbach (b. 1931) is a German-British painter known for his densely layered, heavily textured impasto paintings that capture the raw energy of portraiture and urban landscapes. A leading figure in the School of London, alongside artists such as Lucian Freud, Francis Bacon, and Leon Kossoff, Auerbach’s expressive brushwork and commitment to reworking his canvases over months or even years make his paintings some of the most distinctive in post-war British art.
