Lynette Yiadom-Boakye (b. 1977) is a British-Ghanaian contemporary artist celebrated for her evocative, timeless portraiture that centers on imagined Black subjects. Her paintings, characterized by loose, gestural brushstrokes and moody, rich color palettes, capture a sense of intimacy, mystery, and narrative ambiguity. Unlike traditional portraiture, her figures do not depict real people but are instead composites of memory, imagination, and subconscious storytelling.
